I've been battling with scalp problems since my bad reaction to a relaxer back in 2008.  Scalp flare-up's have been on and off since then and have progressively gotten worse over the years.  Now my whole scalp is covered in what appears to be scalp psoriasis, I have no diagnosis at this point since I am currently in the process of finding a good dermatologist.  Over the weekend I had my first break down of being completely fed up with dealing with my scalp problems and almost did the ultimate. . . Shave my head.  My dad talked to me and gave me lots of encouragement and the best advice, not to do it.

I am putting my hair in twist so that I can access my scalp easier to moisturize it.  I've read online that  moisturizing the scalp with organic coconut oil should do the trick, so Rob picked some up from his sister's favorite spot
herb & tea house

I will talk about this later on in an update video :)

It smells so amazing, reminds me of an almond joy.  I will keep you all posted on my scalp in a future YouTube video.  Wish me luck ;)

  1. Thanks for sharing your story. I have suffered from this continuously too and it is very frustrating. I've finally gotten relief through prescription drops that are applied directly to my scalp 2x/day. However, I just found this article online that suggests monthly henna treatments as a remedy. I've never tried henna, but will definitely give it a try next.

  2. I had lots of scalp issues and oil steaming really helped me. I would cover my hair and scalp with coconut oil or olive oil ans sit under the huetiful steamer once ever two weeks. Ultimately might be a good idea to go to a dermatologist and have it checked. Take care of yourself!

  3. Hey Ambrosia!

I live in the valley and wanted to recommend a dermatologist to you. Dr. Stockton is an AMAZING dermatologist who I've seen and many of my friends and family have as well. She's very sweet and I know for me when dealing with skin issues it's nice to have a women of color be the one I look to for help. Definitely check her out and set up an appointment.

Good luck and I hope everything works out!

  4. Hey Ambrosia,
wow! I would see a dermatologist and ask them to send you for a detailed blood test. You really should not be going through this years later after you stop perming your hair. Love your youtube and blog. Stay strong ! Blessings :)

  5. Last year I was experiencing the same symptoms as you. I too had a breakdown b/c my scalp was burning, itching, red and a whole lot of caked flakes. It was devastating because some of my hair was coming out with the flakes. I finally saw a dermatologist who diagnosed me with seborrheic dermatitis. I have been using a prescribed oil called Derma smooth that you use as "pre poo" overnight and wash out as normal. It great to use especially for people with natural hair because the other stuff I was prescribed was so drying due to the alcohol in it. I have been using it since November with much relieve. I still get a few "patches here and there but it's not to the extent it was. I believe I have some food sensitivity to something in my diet causing this "fungus" on my scalp. But definitely see your dermatologist. I wish you the best of luck.
