DO YOU SEE HAIR?

Since when did our hair dictate the way that we feel about ourselves?

India Arie hit the spot with I am not my hair, so many women chanted the lyrics yet, it's like no one even listened.

The way you wear your hair does not dictate the way one feels about theirself at any particular moment.  Sure at times people go through rough situations and do things such as shaving it all off, completely understandable.  But why is it that when a kinky/curly girl wears anything that did not actually grow out of her scalp it is assumed that she is not happy with her own hair; what ever happened to just wanting to switch it up?

Why is it that we always have to explain ourselves when ever we want to do something different to our hair?

Hi, I am a woman with Natural Hair.

I am able to wear my hair kinky today and straight tomorrow.  It is totally liberating.
I will not explain myself when I wear a weave,
be it a clip it, sew-in, lace-front, etc. You shouldn't either.

Why is it that one can be talking about something so moving, so empowering, yet she is not heard because all they are interested in is "That Hair"
Hair is wonderful, hair is fab, I love hair but I am so much more than that.  Someone who can only talk about hair should definitely expand, there is so much more to life than conversations on follicles.  Lets expand our minds. . .

  1. Love this post! I see so many people on your channel commenting on your hair when you are on a totally different subject. They don't take from the purpose of the video. I understand that they're interested, but if you mentioned your hair in every single video, then YOU wouldn't be who you are. I love that you talk about things from boobie issues(LOL) to keeping slim & that your channel isn't dedicated to hair only because that can get boring. If you were to talk about your hair in every video, you might as well talk about what make up your wearing, and your outfit of the day in every video because hair is interchangeable as well.

  2. I believe this was geared towards me .... I am the one who left the comment regarding your hair .. I was not in anyway trying to be rude or discouraging. I too get excited about the versatility with your channel. However I became a subscriber because I loved watching your encouraging Natural Hair videos. Not saying at all that wearing weave is bad I just chose to give it up once I became Natural. I did find you to be very encouraging and inspirational while following you. I liked the video and just simply stated your Natural hair is my fav look on you ( which was later deleted ) so with that I apologize for this uncomfortable reaction . You are right u r not ur hair.... But it is what got my attention to sub to u in the first place ..... I see now certain comments should be left unsaid so certain nerves cannot be touched. Again I apologize for any harm and wish you all the best .... ShayG!

  3. Wonderful post! I love my natural hair, wouldn't trade it for any other hair in the world, however, I like to try other styles as well. I would be lying if I said weave (on certain people) was ugly. Many women I see who wear a weave look gorgeous and their styling choices are very cute, and if I believe I can look just as good in it (lol) I will rock it too!

  4. I LOVE this post! I am a natural that LOVES to change up my hair...all the time! I will wear my fro today, have twists tomorrow, braids next week, a wig on the day after that! lol It's just so fun to change it up. I agree with India's lyrics totally! Some ppl are NOT comfortable with themselves and feel they have to give their opinion when it was never requested. Ppl like that truly irk me! Natural hair wearers have been the biggest critic. I hate I ever told anyone I was natural b/c I didn't hear so many opinions until I did (from naturals). Girl you are lovely and beautiful and do what you feel you want to do with you and YOUR fabulous hair! Be it a weave, kinks, curls, lacey, whatever!

  5. love this post yes when i went natural i felt a since of confidence. because i didn't care what anyone thought about my hair and i felt free. wear kinky, curly and straight. A lot of people say why dont you just straighten your hair. I say i like the versatility and not being confined. Why should i conform to what everyone says natural or hair should be. that was the point of tis adventure in the first place and PLUS when you switch it up the compliments do come and you bring some spice in your life.

Please give the details or direct me to the link, if you have already. I used to follow your channel for the natural tips, now I do for beauty tips in general, -I have been putting lighter colored shadow under my eye ever since I watched one of your tutorials, and it works FANTASTIC!! THANK YOU! Love the occasional inspirations too

  9. There is so much more to life, some ladies need to find another hobby, or just plain get a life! Because in the end, if I want to dye it, lock it, braid it, weave it - its going to get done and there is not a thing anyone can do about it! I am enjoying my life on this planet and experiencing everything that makes ME feel good!!!!!

  11. I'm so glad you touched on this! I felt the same way when the young Olympic champion was a record breaking athlete (Gabby)- at 16 years old she was the first African American athlete to break an international record.... and the black community/media focused on her HAIR!!! they called her nappy headed, the whole nine. I'm like, this young woman just broke an international record. It has to stop. We judge people by our hair, and at the end of the day, it's follicles on a scalp. thank you for posting!

  12. I absolutely agree with this post. I too am natural and could care less what anyone has to say about my hair. I rock weaves, braids, wigs, and my hair still looks fab. You don't have to explain yourself to anyone. I love your blog and your YT channel. You inspired me to go natural about a year ago. Keep doing you girl!
